Halloween on a Budget

Halloween is coming up quick and being a frugal mom I always look for ways to be thrifty while still allowing my kids have their fun. Just like with other holidays I look for fun halloween decor after the holiday to use the next year. So, each year we pull out the boxes and decorate and look through old costumes to see what we can make new again. This year we found a few that can be used again with just a couple tweaks.

This should be fun! 

Along with costumes, we try to find inexpensive activities as well. There are lots of fun pumpkin patches in our area, and they provide all day fun at a great price and we even come home with pumpkins to carve!

Tips From My Sewing Room

I have been doing more crafting lately than I have writing. I'm feeling a little disheveled. I like to have a neatly organized sewing room to enjoy my quiet time. I would like to share some of my organizing tips I use to keep my crafting space my "happy" place.  They are very simple tips!!

 

I feel like maximizing the upper space in a room is important.

I am using a magnetic bowl to hold my straight pins to my ironing board. They are in easy reach and I don't have to keep moving them.

 

 

Keeping all my cutting tools and rulers together in a dedicated cutting area. 

Even in my small room (8ftx6ft) I can designate area for each task.

Bins bins and more bins! 

These definitely come in handy, and even more so when they have labels.

I'm storing ribbon in here for now but hope to change this soon.

 I would like to be able to see my ribbons.

A large ruler is needed a lot in my crafts so I tapped the very long fabric ruler to my desk for easy measuring.

Like I said before..... Bins bins and more bins. 

Upcycling some soup bowls from Chick Fil A into storage for smaller accessories. The lids snap on snugly so even little pins have a hard time falling out. it is no surprise I love Chick Fil A, They value the environment and recycling like I do! Since I am a dedicated chick fil a mom, I was challenged to use these containers... I guess I showed them! 

Again, everything has its place. Basic desk accessories together in a handy can.

Chick-Fil-A DIY

 I started with a delicious salad from Chick-Fil-A.

 I was challenged by Chick-Fil-A Moms Club to repurpose the salad container. Memorial day is coming up and that means lots of backyard BBQs. So, I decided to make a table centerpiece for all those evening BBQs.

 All of the additional decorative items I am using here were from my local dollar store.

 My camera wasn't cooperating so the video I took of the process didn't turn out. It was very simple though. 

I used the star garland a couple different ways. I wound it around the solar lamp stem as well as placed it into the base of the dish to act a filler. I, then, hot glued the flowers and leaves to several different places around the lamp and dish. Then I finished off with some little glittery decor. This was a very simple DIY and the salad was amazing too.
